SHOW Study

Oxytocin in Women with Hypopituitarism

About the Study

We are conducting a research study evaluating oxytocin levels, psychological well-being, and bone density in females with hypopituitarism, with and without diabetes insipidus (now known as Arginine Vasopressin Deficiency). We are also looking at oxytocin levels, psychological well-being, and bone density in healthy controls.

We are studying whether some women with hypopituitarism are deficient in the posterior pituitary hormone oxytocin, a hormone involved in appetite and weight regulation, bone health, and psychological well-being. Our team is the first to have identified a potential oxytocin deficient state in men with hypopituitarism. For this study, we are studying oxytocin in women with hypopituitarism, since this hormone acts differently in men and women.

Who May Be Eligible?

  • Women ages 35-70 years old

  • Those who have been diagnosed with anterior pituitary deficiency (with or without diabetes insipidus)

  • Healthy volunteers who do not have an anterior pituitary deficiency and diabetes insipidus
