EVOLVE Study

Identifying Oxytocin Deficiency in Pituitary Disease

About the Study

We are doing this research to understand whether a single dose of a hormone pill (norethindrone acetate/ethinyl estradiol) could be used to identify individuals who have deficiency of the pituitary hormone oxytocin.

Oxytocin deficiency in individuals with arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D; formerly known as central diabetes insipidus) has been linked to worse socioemotional health. Coming up with a way to identify individuals with oxytocin deficiency is an important first step towards our goal of improving care of individuals with oxytocin deficiency.

Who May Be Eligible?

  • Adults ages 35 years and older

  • Those who have been diagnosed with arginine vasopressin deficiency

  • Healthy volunteers who do not have arginine vasopressin deficiency
